About me
My name is Ifthar a rail nut since birth. I live in Dehiwala, a suburb south of the capital. As usual it is the parents, grand parents, uncles or someone who are the guilty ones for introducing trains to the kids! In my case it was my father and uncle who took me to the trackside every opportunity they got. Although I was terrified of trains initially, there was fascination too and I was hooked from day one. Now I am married have a son and daughter, ride trains when time permits much to the annoyance of the Mrs! I am also a member in the Model Railroad Club Sri Lanka. I have an 8x4 HO scale layout that I started to build from 2001 onwards. As they say a layout will never be complete! it is still evolving. Although Model rail is a very interesting hobby it can never come close to the real thing! No model can thunder past you with deafening noise, shaking the ground under your feet and blowing dust in your face!!
My Hero is the Class M6 Henschel Thyssen. Its a graceful mild tempered locomotive, the GM engine purrs even on full throttle sounding like a Volks-Wagon beetle engine! Also the unsupported handrails on the both end of the locomotive is a unique design.
